Hi! My name is Nicole and until recently I was a productive member of society, as my parents say. Now I am spending my days crafting, reading or finding new places to wander and explore!
Recently my husband and I moved from the United States to an island… The United Kingdom! Prior to moving I worked as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) where I delivered safe anesthesia to patients throughout the United States. I plan to pop back to the USA for travel assignments during the years while we live oversees in order to maintain my nurse credentials.
A few years ago, I started working on travel assignments around the United States as a way to explore and fulfill my growing need to wander. That inevitably led to me saying yes when my husband asked if I wanted to try my hand at living abroad. It has been a dream of mine since going to college to live abroad, but it was never in the cards during a nursing degree because there was no spare time. He applied for the job and less than three months later we began planning our hop across the pond! The downside of the move is the United Kingdom does not have my subspecialty of nursing so I am unable to work.
I decided to start this blog as a way to document my days – from the local walks I find to discovering the countries that are now in our backyard while living in Europe!
I will be sure to share all my mishaps – there will be a few as I figure out the British terminology. My favorite is booking a single twin bed or ‘small double’ as the Brits refer to it for the night for myself and my spouse. Luckily there was a cancellation so we were able to get a second twin bed! Who knew I would be so excited about the possibility of a twin bed when we are used to a US King.
